Carbon Cost per impressions & Order of Magnitude

Having recently using your API, I get surprising results.

We have been trying to compute carbon cost for several campaigns and we get a carbon cost per impression between 0.2-0.8 g CO2 eq depending on the parameters that we select (size, device, etc.). By the way, it seems to fit with the example you give in the documentation with 13821 impressions as input and 3054.56 g CO2 eq as output.

At the scale of our biggest campaigns, which advertise hundreds of stores throughout the French territory for our clients, it represents several dozens of tons CO2 eq (for instance we simulated the carbon cost for a campaign with 60 000 000 display impressions and we got 44 tons of CO2 eq).

Does it seem reliable to you or is there something we are missing ?

I guess you are familiar with the order of magnitude on the matter, but a Paris New York round trip by plane represents around 2 tons of CO2 eq and the average carbon consumption for a French citizen over a year has been estimated at 10 tons of CO2 eq. Therefore we are quite surprised with the figure that we get, which seems to overestimate our carbon pollution.

I can of course give you an input of our API calls if you wish.

Thanks in advance for reading the email,

Have a nice week-end,
