May 2023 Emissions Model

The May emissions model now includes broader access to streaming video measurement; introducing social measurement; customization for various ad stack and publisher configurations.

Streaming video measurement in open beta

Streaming video has been in closed beta for the last two months. All clients can now trial measurement of streaming video as of May 1. Please reach out to your Customer Success rep or Scope3 Support to enable access.

Override publisher integration detection

In general, we auto-detect the integration method between a publisher and its monetization partners. In some cases this auto-detection is unable to determine whether, for instance, a publisher works with a monetization partner through a tag on page or through header bidder (Teads is an example of a partner that has a mix of both integration methods). We have added the ability to override our auto-detection to make the supply graph more accurate using data from publishers and/or monetization partners.

The initial impact of this change is fairly minor (specifically, the accuracy of nodes has improved and will change emissions and supply directness on certain publishers). We are working with other partners to confirm our detection accuracy and will continue to refine our integration models.

Detect passthrough nodes

Some nodes in the vendor graph are part of the transactional flow but do not create any bid request or comparable processing. For instance, a sales house that is in practice a "seat" on an exchange (eg Media Impact uses a Xandr seat as its primary platform). We will now treat this as a single node in the graph for emissions purposes. We will also split out supply directness data to show "logical" depth (in this case, 2 hops) and "technical" depth (1 hop).

The impact of this change will generally decrease emissions for sales houses.
